It's been a long time since I was able to get into a gym - when I left on my travels I canceled my gym membership and resorted to functional training wherever I was. Then once I sprained my ankle my opportunity to get back into a gym was delayed even further.
It's been a process, but after starting physical therapy this last week, I found out I could some low impact exercises while we work with mobility, stability and strength in my ankle. Today I made my way into the gym and rode a bike for 30 minutes! It was amazing... I feel incredibly out of shape, but it was just so fantastic to get back in there again.
I know there is countless evidence that exercise aids in the happiness of life - I've even seen it on numerous occasions recently that exercise is the best antidepressant.
One Harvard article says, "Besides lifting your mood, regular exercise offers other health benefits, such as lowering blood pressure, protecting against heart disease and cancer, and boosting self-esteem."
With results like those listed, I find it hard to NOT get workout on a regular basis.
Bring on the endorphins.

And here are some more articles on the matter:
- 7 Benefits of Exercise
- "7 Mind Blowing Benefits of Exercise" - because simply noting 7 benefits like the previous article simply isn't enough, apparently.
- 13 Unexpected Benefits of Exercise
What I find interesting between these 3 articles is that they hit a lot of similar points - and yet some feel the need to say they are unexpected or "mind blowing." I am excited for a day when we all just understand and desire the benefits of exercise on a regular basis.
