"What's your favorite meal?" seems to be a question I hear occasionally - usually when someone is trying to plan out meals in some capacity, but more often than not, the question is always in regards to dinner.
Whenever my family is together, a lot of our time is spent on discussing on where we will go to dinner or what we will cook the next night. I didn't realize I had a real preference until my parents came to visit me while I was living in Denver, CO. They asked where I would like to go for meals - and they were referring to dinner - when I realized I had little experience with Denver's dinner restaurants. We would try something out and I would find that it was delicious but not worth my money when I can cook something better at home (and usually not fancy OR comforting). In contrast, I would get extremely excited, however, if discussing where we could possibly go to breakfast the next morning.
Because I seemed to be different from my family, I did some poking around on the internet and found that most of the polls that have asked which meal people prefer... it seems breakfast is the most forgotten. People either wake up too late to eat breakfast or love good comfort foods for dinner, but they tend to rank breakfast as last.
I think this is a mistake. Breakfast is by far the best meal, in my opinion.
So last night my family went to dinner - as I am leaving town - and I made the request we go to breakfast today. Not that dinner wasn't great - it was, but breakfast will always hold my heart.
And so we went to breakfast - where I had my "boring" breakfast meal of eggs, homefries/hashbrowns, and a biscuit with hot sauce and coffee. But something so wonderful about the conversations at breakfast, the sun still shining, the deliciousness of the food.. coffee...
So breakfast. Breakfast makes me happy.
